Have you ever been driving around and you see people running and you feel an immediate pang of guilt because you don’t? I have! And I loathe running- always have. Even when I did it. Somehow seeing people doing healthy things that we don’t and feel we should make us feel less. Less disciplined, less important, less successful in life. And less likely to exercise! It’s a vicious cycle!
I don’t believe exercise should feel brutal and something we loathe to do. Someone said somewhere that the best exercise is one that you will actually do. I agree! What sort of body movement do you actually enjoy? Maybe it’s dance, like me. Or yoga (another fav). Maybe it’s stretching or swimming or taking long walks. Pick one. Pick several. Just pick the ones you know you will do and do them consistently.
That’s the clincher, Consistency. You have to make your mind up that YOU are the most important thing in your life, so you come first! Forget about schedules and deadlines and to-do lists. Put “me-time” first on that schedule. The rest of the day will take care of itself. Everything goes smoother when you are in a happy mood and believe me, moving your body in your happy way will indeed produce some endorphins and you will find yourself in a much happier mood having a much more productive day.
