That Voice In My Head!

Have you ever listened to that voice in your head? Everybody has one! Usually, it is running in there behind the scenes like a computer virus. And usually, it is as nasty and destructive as a virus. It can do untold damage if left unchecked.

Try it for a few minutes while doing ordinary things like getting ready in the morning. I started checking in like that when my life wasn’t working so well for me. I started inquiring into what in the world was going on inside my head. What was I thinking while brushing my teeth or doing dishes? Many times (almost always) at the beginning of this inquiry it was almost physically painful to realize what was going on in there. Ouch! would be my first reaction.

How do we change that? My gosh how damaging to our self-esteem, our self worth these negative thoughts are! Where did they come from? Conditioning but I don’t think that is what is important here. Stopping that negative self-talk is where we want to go. I started changing this behind-the-scenes behavior pattern by literally yelling “Stop”! and taking a look in the mirror and saying to myself “don’t do that to you”!

Next, we have to replace those internal statements with something positive. That positive statement has to be one that we actually believe, though, or it won’t take root. Start with something small like “I want to be nice to myself” or “I don’t look that bad”. Whatever you can come up with that the voice in your head won’t balk at.

What happens if you keep going with this exercise regularly? You will feel so much better all of the time! Your self-esteem will skyrocket! You will actually start actively loving yourself. And you will begin to notice that other people react to you differently too. Carrying this newly improved, virus-free high vibe will spread like wildfire in your life.
I am not kidding! I am living proof!

As always, I encourage comments, questions, and topics for future articles!
